Hello! I am an early-career researcher based in Brisbane, Australia. My research generally explores social media, from perspectives including popular culture, politics, news and journalism, irreverence, and fandom. My first book, Social Media and Everyday Politics, came out in April 2016, and as of February 2015 I am a Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellow in the Creative Industries Faculty at Queensland University of Technology studying ‘Visual Cultures of Social Media‘. I am also a Centre Member at QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre and part of the QUT Social Media Research Group.
I travel a lot and try and get to various media/communication/internet studies conferences – I can usually be found at the Association of Internet Researchers conferences, for instance – and I am always happy to chat (about anything, really), to talk about research and collaborations and also general silliness. You can also find me on Twitter. If you’d like to know more about my research, you can peruse my publications and presentations, or just fire through an email — tim.highfield AT gmail.com
